Publicolor was one of my favorite service trips of all time. A group of 8 students was chosen to go to Washington Heights to paint a school with children in the 4th-6th grade who attended it. Though I felt nervous at first, to my surprise, I was very popular. The kids made me feel right at home. As we painted, we played games and talked about each other's lives: our families, how school was, favorite foods and our friends. I sat with the kids at lunch time and we played 'guess what I'm thinking of.' I remeber one girl, Alexis, very specifically.

"You're not like the other volunteers who come here. You talk to me. You're cool."

I don't think I'll ever take another compliment so seriously and be so flattered. After the hallway was painted, it was time to go. I took a picture with Alexis to commemorate our time together. I even gave her my email address. This was the best service I've ever done. I can't wait to continue with Publicolor and to help other children however I can.
