This DNY art class is about the importance of “Noticing". Each lecture provided a genuine experience of understanding the meaning of art. Although it may have gone against most of both myself and classmate’s traditional beliefs of what we thought were appealing, taking the course allowed us to open our eyes and see (not only New York) but simple things differently. At first I wasn’t sure what we would learn about. I thought there would be several field trips a week - and term papers, but I was clearly wrong. This digi page will allow you, my viewers, to understand my experience with Professor Heidi Upton.

I’m from Norwalk CT. The only thing to appreciate there would be the change of seasons along the quiet streets of my neighborhood. It’s almost as if I appreciated and only looked at nature aesthetically. That has changed. When I came to New York it was a different experience. The neighborhood streets were no longer quiet, nor barren. My eyes opened up to seeing or should I say noticing those that populated these five boroughs. Instead of walking past them as I would in CT, I tried to understand their background, their life, their stories. After all, we are all immigrants in some shape or form. I’ve learned to be open minded, and I’ve learned to analyze and find the significance in just about everything. I thought I’d have a tourist experience that involved me solely seeing the tall sky scrapers and tourist attractions but I haven’t yet. It’s like I moved beyond that phase and I’m grateful for it. Within these tabs I’ve elaborated on many of the assignments done in the course. Each one is unique and has prime theme of “noticing.”
