Induction Ceremony 2015

 

ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY HOSTS SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION

 

Epsilon Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi and the Department of Languages and Literatures at St. John's University hosts the Spanish Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 at the school’s Queens Campus. The event, to begin at 5:00 p.m. in D’Angelo Center ‘s Ballroom, is a celebration of academic achievement.

 

Dr. Marie-Lise Gazarian, Professor of Languages & Literatures at St. John’s University and Director of the Graduate Program in Spanish, will open the ceremony and introduce Dr. Conrado Gempesaw, the President of St. John’s University, who will give the welcoming remarks.

 

Entertainment for the evening will include a concert of classical music by the well-known Peruvian guitarist David Galvez. The children Bryan Rodríguez and Ariana Padilla will perform the “Marinera,” the graceful and traditional Peruvian dance, which dates back to the 17th century.

 

There will be a live demonstration of the interaction of literature and the arts performed by 2 Graduate and 2 Undergraduate students: Mónica Sarmiento will create a painting, in front of the audience, while Andrei Bezzubikoff, Luis Leal, and Miguel Vásquez will read their poetry to inspire with their words colors and subject matter for the artist in action. The painting will be 
dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Graduate Program in Spanish.
