Yrene Santos

Yrene Santos (Villa Tapia, Hermanas Mirabal province, Dominican Republic, 1963). Writer and professor at the City University of New York (CUNY) and St. John's University. Books published: September almost ends (Dominican Republic, 2016), By the amazement (Ecuador, 2015), I was surprised geometrica (New York, 2013), After the rain (Dominican Republic, 2009) and In case someone arrives (New York), 2009), El tireless juego (Dominican Republic, 2002), Reencuentro (New York, 1997), Desnudez del silencio (Dominican Republic, 1988). Co-author of the book: From the Diaspora: Stories and poems of Dominican children (New York, 2005).

 

As a Poet, two fairs have been dedicated to her: In 2016, the X Fair of Dominican Writers of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in New York and in 2013, the 10th International Book Fair of Dominican Writers, organized by the Center for Development of the Dominican woman (DWDC) also New York. SHe has participated in conferences, book fairs and international poetry festivals. His work was interpreted by the Pregones theater, directed by Puerto Rican actress and director Miriam Colón in 2012. She is co-organizer with Carlos Aguasaco of The Americas Poetry Festival of New York (poetryny.com). His texts have been translated into English, French and Italian.

 

 Carlos Aguasaco

Carlos Aguasaco [Bogota 1975] is Associate Professor of Latin American Cultural Studies and Deputy Chair in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences of City College of the City University of New York (CUNY). He received his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University and was awarded the prestigious W. Burghardt Turner Doctoral Fellowship by the State University of New York. He also holds an M.A. in Spanish from CCNY and a B.A. in Literature from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has edited ten literary anthologies and published six books of poems, most recently Poemas del metro de Nueva York (Spanish Edition 2014, French

edition 2018, Arabic Edition 2019) and Antología de poetas hermafroditas (2014), Diente de plomo (2016) and Piedra del Guadalquivir (2017).

 

He has also published a short novel and an academic study of Latin America’s prime superhero, El Chapulín Colorado, entitled ¡No contaban con mi astucia! He is the editor of Transatlantic Gazes: Studies on the Historical Links between Spain and North America (2018). In 2010 he won the India Catalina Prize for best video
in the art category at the Cartagena International Film Festival. Carlos is the founder and director of Artepoetica Press (artepoetica.com), a publishing house specializing in Hispanic American themes and authors. He is also director of The Americas Poetry Festival of New York (poetryny.com) and coordinator of The Americas Film Festival of New York (taffny.com). Carlos has co-organized international conferences and seminars with institutions like Instituto Franklin (Universidad de Alcalá), Instituto Cervantes, Transatlantic Project (Brown University) and Universidad Tres de Febrero, among others. His poems have been translated into English, French, Portuguese, Romanian, Galician, and Arabic. Elssie Cano

Elssie Cano, nació en Ecuador y reside en los Estados Unidos desde 1970. En 1990 se graduó en Ingeniería Mecánica en The City College of New York. Miguel-Ángel Zapata 

Miguel-Ángel Zapata, poeta y ensayista peruano, ha publicado recientemente tres antologías de su poesía: Hoy dejó de ser invierno por un día (Buenos Aires, 2016), La nota 13 (Bogotá, 2015), y Hoy día es otro mundo (Granada, España, 2015), y la traducción de su poesía selecta al italiano: “Uno escribe poesia camminando” (Antologia personale 1997-2015), trad. de Emilio Coco (Roma, 2016). También destacan los poemarios: Fragmentos de una manzana y otros poemas (Sevilla, 2011), Ensayo sobre la rosa. Poesía selecta 1983-2008 (Lima, 2010), Los canales de piedra. Antología mínima (Venezuela, 2008), Un pino me habla de la lluvia (Lima, 2007), Iguana (FCE, 2005). Su poesía ha sido traducida al inglés, francés, portugués, griego, e italiano. Alex Lima

 

Alex Lima (Guayaquil, Ecuador, 1975) moved to Brooklyn at the age of 15. He is the author of five poetry collections, Mesa de contentos (Clayton, 2019), Híbrida cíclica (Quito, 2017), Alba (New York, 2015), Bilocaciones (Quito, 2011) and Inverano (Riobamaba, 2008). His poems have also appeared in literary magazines and anthologies in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, the author has published scholarly works concerning contemporary and 18th century Latin American literature, including Juan Bautista Aguirre: Conciencia lírica de la nación ecuatoriana(Quito, 2017), “Deplazamientos en la trilogía de Jorge Eduardo Benavides” (Lima, 2018), and the selected poems of Róger Santiváñez, due out this fall (Artepoética Press NY). Alex Lima has also served as editor of Hybrido magazine for over ten years and is currently CEO of the Latino Arts Council of Long Island where he resides and teaches as Adjunct Professor of Spanish at Suffolk County Community College.
