First 90 Days

This is a guide for the first 90 days of my coaching tenure:

BEGIN BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS 

Set up visits with the following individuals and offices:

 

Athletic Director

 

                Priorities for the Athletic Department

 

                AD expectations of me

 

                AD expectations for the program

 

                AD issues for the baseball program

 

                Vision for the baseball program

 

Coolege President

                    Learn the way ahead to gain a better understanding of the President's Vision

                     Learn the President's priorities

 

Dean of Students

                      Learn the challenges the students face. 

                      Learn inexpensive lessons from the Dean of Students that other coaches have experienced

 

Academic Dean

                     Learn the focus of the Dean and how I can work within the Dean’s system to ensure the players are maximizing their collegiate experience.

 

Athletic Support Staff

              General Introduction and identify areas of mutual interest

 

Other Sport Coaches

             Introduce myself and pick the minds of coaches for any helpful information, begin to build mutually beneficial relationships

 

Team coaches

                Introduce myself

                Learn about them as individuals, e.g. family

                Learn their personal and professional desires

                Learn their individual areas of expertise

                Learn what we need to sustain

                Learn what we need to change

                Learn about the dynamics within the team

 

Team                    

                Introduce myself to the team

                Explain my vision for the Hillsdale Baseball Program

 

Player visits

                 Individual meetings with each player                     

                 Learn about them as individuals

                 Learn about their backgrounds

                 What are their life goals

                 What are their academic/professional goals

                 How they are doing in class

                 What are their baseball goals

                                               

DEVELOP THE CULTURE

                Develop team goals with the players

                Develop our ethos for practice and games

                Players develop their own goals: baseball, academics, and life

 

DEVELOP EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

                Introduce myself to the conference coaches

                Chamber of Commerce introduction

                Alumni Association introduction

                Local and National Sports Press

 

BEGIN THE RECRUITING PROCESS

                Develop recruiting priorities

                Develop recruiting goals

                Establish recruiting targets

                Expand relationships with area schools

                Become visible to the possible recruit and go to them
