Dr. Muth joined St. John’s University as an Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in September 2016. He is from Albany, NY and attended Binghamton University and graduated with a B.S. degree in Chemistry, specializing in Organic Synthesis. He was an undergraduate researcher in the laboratories of Dr. Susan Bane and Dr. Scott Handy. After graduating in 2006, he moved to Charlottesville, VA where he obtained his M.A. in Chemistry. He then pursued his Ph.D. at the University of Central Florida under the supervision of Dr. Otto Phanstiel IV where his graduate research focused on the development of novel polyamine conjugates to target the polyamine transport system. In 2012, he joined the research group of Dr. Brian Blagg at The University of Kansas for his postdoctoral training. His work focused on the development of isoformselective inhibitors of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90). He then pursued further postdoctoral training in the research group of Dr. Paul Thompson as a Padlock Therapeutics Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where he focused on the development of protein arginine deiminase (PAD) inhibitors and subsequent probes. After completing his training at UMass Medical School, he joined the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at St. John's University. His research and teaching interests include medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, and drug discovery with a research focus in protein-protein interactions.
