About Underwater New York
Underwater New York is a digital journal of stories, art and music. Artists and storytellers have long drawn inspiration from our cityscape, but underneath the water’s surface is another landscape entirely, ranging from the whimsical (a runaway giraffe, a fleet of ice cream trucks, an upright Formica dinette) to the historical (the steamship Princess Anne, the remnants of Coney Island’s Dreamland). Underwater New York curates an ever-growing list of underwater objects, discovered by divers and scientists, detectives and engineers, environmentalists and everyday city-dwellers, and the stories these objects evoke. We invite you to dive in.
Select an object from our list (underwaternewyork.com/objects) and create something. All that we require is that you remain true to the object with your story – i.e. if it was found in Coney Island Creek, keep the object anchored there.
