Professional Development

 

  1. 2012 Summer Faculty Writing Institute in Paris (July/August 2011)
    • Worked with over twenty St. John’s University faculty to improve course syllabus, student writing assignments, and course assessment.
    • Developed new syllabus for Human Person course integrating new writing assignments and assessment.
  2. Distance Learning Courses
    • Completed the on-line training course (Spring 2010).
    • Have developed and continue to develop distance learning courses for the past two years.
  3. Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Faculty Fellows Program (2009/2010)
    • Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Faculty Fellows worked together and with the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum through the entire academic year to study the teaching of writing, plan significant revision of the teaching of writing in an undergraduate course (or courses), and prepare for how to best utilize the instructional support of an Undergraduate Writing Fellow.
    • Attended and presented at the Writing Across the Curriculum Conference in Bloomington, IN.  Trip was sponsored by the WAC program at St. John’s University.
  4. T3 – Transforming Teaching through Technology, Faculty Participant (2008-2009)
    • A year long seminar/workshop funded by a grant by the US government intended to explore novel and creative ways of using technology and information literacy in teaching, and approaches to critical thinking.
    • Faculty participants were required to develop a specific project for a course taught at St. John’s.
    • Met and discussed ideas on teaching and technology with past and present participants in the program.
    • Attended the Best Teachers Conference in West Orange, NJ.  The conference was led by Ken Bains, noted scholar on university teaching.  A total of six professors from St. John’s University attended the conference.  The cost of the trip and conference was paid for by the T3 program.
    • Presented with the other participating faculty our experiences and lessons gained from the conference (10/14/10).  This presentation was sponsored by the T3 program.
